One day my husband was driving in
Yerushalayim without a seatbelt on. An Egged bus was making
a turn in front of him and stopped his bus.
My husband exclaimed, "Mah Karah"--what's
happening?"
The bus driver responded "when you put
your seat belt on, I will move on. "
I said, "Only in Israel, would a bus
driver care about the welfare of a fellow traveler."
I was in a bus in winter in Jerusalem
many years ago when it started to "snow." By that, I mean a
few flakes were seen in the air. The bus driver closed the
radio and seemed very nervous. There was no snow on the
ground, only a few flakes. When someone started making noise
on the bus, the driver yelled, "Quiet! Can't you see it's
snowing??"
It was so funny...but he was serious -
and everyone on the bus became very quiet so he could
concentrate.
A bus driver was in a bad
mood on my local bus. I take it every day around the same
time and it's usually one of a very few drivers. This
morning, one of the regulars was driving and when I got on,
he wasn't as friendly as usual. It was just a little
difference, but he seemed very serious and wasn't chatting
with people like he normally does. We got to one stop and
you could see this young mother trying to push her baby
carriage quickly to the stop, but just as she was getting
near the back of the bus, the last passenger got on the
front and the driver started to pull away.
Everyone on the bus started
yelling for him to wait, but one woman (also a regular),
walked up to him and yelled at him, "Moshe, you should be
ashamed. Stop the bus now."
And he did! He even apologized
to the mother and waited until she'd gotten on and was
seated with her baby! After that, he started being
friendlier to everyone. I guess he was just having a bad
day. |
